TO AND THRU KENTUCKY ON THE “HENDERSON ROUTE”

On May 29, 1896, the Louisville, Henderson & St. Louis Railway Company (the “Henderson Route”) was incorporated under the laws of the State of Kentucky and became the receiver for the Louisville, St. Louis & Texas Railway (the “Texas Route”) which had begun on January 13, 1882 building a rail line along the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky to Henderson, Kentucky with trackage rights into St. Louis, Missouri. Unlike most corporations which have a perpetual term, the LHSTL had a corporate expiration date of May 29, 2395. The LHSTL had built or acquired a total of 186 miles of track and ran as an independent railroad until becoming under the control of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad (now CSX) in 1929. The LHSTL was a great effort by a unique group of Kentucky businessmen who wanted to make their “mark” on the emerging rail transportation industry.

TODAY the LHSTL is still making its “mark” on the railroad industry, an industry that remains a vital and essential part of the economy of the United States and the rest of the world. LHSTL no longer directly owns and operates a rail line, but rather is a holding company with rail industry investments that we believe are both unique and emerging.
